Alex Chilton (1950-2010)

It is with great sadness that I just found out a few minutes ago that beloved cult singer, Alex Chilton, former leader of 1960s hit-making group The Box Tops and 1970s power pop legends Big Star, as well as an idosyncratic solo artist, passed away today at the age of 59 of an apparent heart attack.

Chilton, who was immortalized in the 1987 Replacements classic song bearing his name, was due to go back out on tour with Big Star.

Words cannot even express what a loss to music this truly is. He will never be forgotten…
