“2012” (2009)

December 10, 2009 at 3:13 pm (Cinema, Reviews & Articles)

I have not seen this movie, nor do I want to or even need to. I saw a 2-minute clip and can already tell that it is the usual formulaic, braindead drivel that Hollywood turns out year after year. The whole 2012 “end-of-the-world” belief is idiotic enough. Why the producers, writers and director felt the need to make a movie concerning this nonsense just smacks of cynicism and opportunistic greed – which is typical of Hollywood.

All the actors in this movie should be ashamed of themselves. And from the clip that I saw, it looks like your typical over-the-top special effects that clog up the film, just like too many other movies these days. At 158 minutes running length, this film is 157 1/2 minutes too long. I usually don’t believe in reviewing something without having experienced it properly. In the case of films like this, though, is it really necessary? There have been thousands of bad movies just like 2012 – there will be thousands more. And as long as Hollywood keeps turning them out, let’s hope the end really is near.

Why do people think 2012 will be the end of the world? I mean what if the Mayans ment that was the end of the way things worked now. Sort of age unlike that of the previous ones. That this new age starting at 2012 will not be a repeat cycle like before. Strange movie idea though.

I think their calendar only went up to Dec. 21, 2012. Doesn’t mean they thought the world would actually end on that date.
