The Dovers – “The Third Eye” (1966)
I just discovered this rare psych song from April 1966 by this garage rock band from Santa Barbara, CA. This is one of the earliest psychedelic singles. They made one more single after this before breaking up.
An earlier garack rock effort called “What Am I Going to Do” was included in the 1998 Nuggets box set.
The Nazz – “Open My Eyes” (1968)
Todd Rundgren’s first group, performing their psych classic “Open My Eyes” (which rips off the opening riff of “I Can’t Explain” by The Who to marvellous effect). This was The Nazz’s only real big shot at the bigtime, before Todd went off to his long & brilliant solo career, as well as leading Utopia for many years.
The Fleshtones – “Let’s Go” and “Stop Fooling Around” (Live – TV)
Garage rock mavens The Fleshtones appearing on some Italian TV program – circa 1995-96. Video quality is just average but it’s a typically spirited performance by the classic purveyors of “super rock.”
Odd introduction by the announcer though…
Curtis Mayfield – “Move On Up” (1970)
The funk-soul classic by the late, great Curtis Mayfield from his debut solo album Curtis. This was one of his finest creations.
Ray Davies – “In a Moment” (TV – 2008)
Former Kinks leader Ray Davies peforming “In a Moment” from his most recent album Working Man’s Cafe on The Dave Letterman Show, Feb. 19, 2008.
The Beach Boys – “H.E.L.P. Is on the Way” (Unreleased – 1977)
Another track off the unreleased 1977 album Adult/Child…
