Elektric Music – “TV” (Video – 1993)

September 3, 2008 at 11:24 pm (Kraftwerk, Krautrock, Music)

This band was formed by Karl Bartos after he left Kraftwerk. “TV” was their debut single and was released on their debut album Esperanto. It has a Kraftwerk feel to it, though the singer has a slight Neil Tennant thing going on.

Organisation – “Silver Forest” (1970)

September 3, 2008 at 11:13 pm (Kraftwerk, Krautrock, Music)

This is the band that became Kraftwerk and features Ralf Hutter and Florian Schneider. As you can hear, they sounded nothing like later Kraftwerk, but they do sound alot like the experimental early phase of Kraftwerk. This is from their sole album Tone Float, which was recorded in 1969 and released in early 1970.

Lead singer of The English Beat and General Public talks about how he got into music, touring, the early punk scene, charity work and other things. Not sure when this is from but I believe it’s from the past few years.

XTC – “The Road to ‘Oranges & Lemons'” (Video – 1989)

September 3, 2008 at 10:03 pm (Music, XTC)

This ridiculous low budget puppet show (I kid you not) was actually made by Andy, Colin & Dave to promote their Oranges & Lemons album. It told their “career story.” They are clearly making it up as they go along.
Is it any wonder they have never become as big as they should?? Andy Partridge obviously must have felt that this took the place of touring, to sell their records. Ha!

Michael Stipe – “Until the Day Is Done” (2008)

September 3, 2008 at 10:01 pm (Michael Stipe, Poetry & Literature, R.E.M.)

The battle’s been lost, the war is not won
An addled republic, a bitter refund
The business first flat earthers licking their wounds
The verdict is dire, the country’s in ruins

Providence blinked, facing the sun
Where are we left to carry on?
Until the day is done
Until the day is done

As we’ve written our stories to entertain
These notions of glory and bull market gain
The teleprompt flutters, the power surge brings
An easy speed message falls into routine

A voice whispers “Son,
The blessed vision comes”
What have I done?
What have I done?

So hold tight your babies and your guns
Forgive us our trespasses, father and son.
