µ-Ziq – “Brace Yourself Jason” (1997)
Taken from the 1997 album Lunatic Harness…
µ-Ziq, which is pronouced “music” is Mike Paradinas in real life.
Diamond Head – “It’s Electric” (1981)
Another great early DH song, later covered by Metallica. Diamond Head made a great debut album and then, due to immense pressure, delivered two disappointing follow up albums, before breaking up. They have gotten back together sporadically over the years but they never made it as big as they should have. Their records are not easy to find these days.
The Monkees – “Listen to the Band” (TV – 1969)
This is taken from the 1969 seldom-seen and surreal TV special The Monkees did – 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee.
Cuts out at the end unfortunately.
The Monkees – “Porpoise Song” (Promo – 1968)
This psychedelic “video” is a scene from The Monkees’ highly surreal 1968 film Head (featuring cameos by Jack Nicholson, Dennis Hopper, Sonny Liston, Ray Nitschke, Annette Funicello, Teri Garr, Victor Mature and Frank Zappa).
The distorted consciousness and psychedelic elements resemble that of an acid trip. Some critics consider this film to be an allegorical deconstruction of The Monkees’ experiences as pawns of the Hollywood starmaking machine that, like their real-life story itself, contains some sinister truths lurking underneath what appears to be a colorful, entrancing facade.
The Beatles – “Yellow Submarine” (Movie Trailer – 1968)
The original movie trailer to the psychedelic animated film…
The Beatles had no desire to do any more films by this time, so it was agreed this animated picture would do instead. When they saw the finished product though, they were so impressed with it, that they agreed to appear “live” at the end of the film.
The Rutles – “Shangri-La” (Video – 1996)
The Pre-Fab Four – Neil Innes & The Rutles return! This tongue in cheek video for the single off their 1996 reunion album Archeology (their take on The Beatles’ Anthology series).
The Beatles – “Don’t Let Me Down” (Live – 1969)
This was The Beatles’ last “concert” – their Apple Rooftop show, recorded for the Let It Be movie. This was recorded on Jan. 30, 1969.
Diamond Head – “Helpless” (TV – 1980)
Taken from the TV show “Look Hear” (BBC Midlands)…DH performs their great heavy metal song “Helpless” – later covered by Metallica, who cited them as an early influence.
The Beatles – “Strawberry Fields Forever” (“Yellow Submarine” – 1968)
Taken from the trippy animated film Yellow Submarine from 1968. The film uses a style of limited animation that deliberately defies reality and paints a landscape that could never exist in the real world; something that appealed greatly to the escapists of the 1960s. It also paved the way for Terry Gilliam’s animations for Do Not Adjust Your Set and Monty Python.
This sounds like a different mix of the song.
George Harrison – “Gopala Krishna” (Demo – 1970)
An unreleased song from George recorded for his debut solo album All Things Must Pass.
