The Rationals – 3 Songs (1970)
This is not a video – just 3 songs taken from this underrated Detroit rock band’s one & only (self-titled) album from 1970. This album did not really do them justice. They were much wilder in concert. They recorded these songs about 2 or 3 years past their prime – but it’s still quality stuff.
They were contemporaries of The MC5 and The Stooges but never got the same recognition. Lead singer Scott Morgan went on to play with Fred “Sonic” Smith (MC5) in a later, also-underrated band called Sonics Rendevouz in the late 70s.
This “video” includes their covers of Robert Parker’s “Barefootin'” – Rod Stewart’s “Handbags & Gladrags” and The Knight Brothers’ “Temptation ‘Bout to Get Me.”
Sandy Denny – 3 Solo Performances (Live)
Sandy alone, performing at the piano & on acoustic guitar. I don’t know the date on this or where it was recorded but I’m assuming it is around the time of her first solo album (since she performs 3 songs from that album – The North Star Grassman and the Ravens), so perhaps 1971 or 72…?
She performs the title track, “Crazy Lady Blues” and “Late November.”
(Note: There are a couple of small glitches in the audio, otherwise the quality is pretty decent)
Return to Forever – “Sorceress” (Live – 1976)
The jazz fusion heroes live on “The Old Grey Whistle Test” from 1976.
Return to Forever – “Vulcan Worlds” (Live – 1974)
Chick Corea & co. live in concert from Chicago…
The Specials – “Too Much Too Young” (Live – 1979)
Another performance from “The Old Grey Whistle Test” from Oct. 1979.
The Specials – “A Message to You Rudy” (Live – 1979)
The neo-ska/new wave legends, live on “The Old Grey Whistle Test” from Oct. 1979, performing the Dandy Livingstone ska classic…
Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros – “Rock the Casbah” (Live – 1999)
Joe & his Mescaleros perform the old Clash classic – live in Cologne, Germany.
Big Audio Dynamite – “E=MC2” (Live – 1988)
Mick Jones’ post-Clash band of rock/funk heroes. This is taken from a show “UK Freedom” from Jan. 5, 1988.
Public Image Ltd. – “Seattle” (Video – 1987)
John Lydon & a later incarnation of PiL from 1987. Taken from the ironically titled album Happy?
Lydon went in a more “pop” oriented direction throughout the 1980s…at least HIS idea of pop.
